An Architectural Dialogue Facing the Mont-Blanc Massif

Located at the foot of the Aiguilles de Chamonix, Chalet Jourdan is more than just a renovation. It is a masterful bridge between two eras, featuring two distinct buildings united by a hidden base and the agency’s signature precision.

Two Buildings, Two Eras, One Vision

The project is built upon a constant dialogue between form and material:

  • The Rebirth of the Original: The historic mountain chalet has been completely renovated, featuring large new windows to frame the spectacular views of the Aiguilles. Modern technical solutions and high-end comfort were integrated while respecting the soul of the building. Granite cornerstones, intricately carved traditional balconies, and colorful shutters stand as witnesses to the past, blending seamlessly with contemporary updates.
  • The New Chalet: A new construction with resolutely modern lines and sculptural, complex balcony designs. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite the outdoors in, highlighting premium finishes. Though contemporary in style, it uses the same “architectural vocabulary” as its neighbor—copper, wood, and granite—to ensure a harmonious conversation between old and new.

A Technical Challenge: “Suspended Heritage”

The project’s greatest complexity lay in preserving the historic structure during major foundation work. In an engineering feat of immense precision, the original chalet was suspended in mid-air to allow for the excavation of a vast underground level.

This luxury basement serves as the invisible link between the two buildings. Beyond housing an elevator serving all floors, it contains a full suite of amenities: a wellness center, gym, and cinema room. It also features a large integrated garage, keeping vehicles out of sight to preserve the natural beauty of the site.

Throughout the process, protecting the landscape remained a priority. The agency carefully positioned the new building to ensure that the surrounding neighborhood retains its unobstructed views of the mountains.
